One of my fish in the ol' fishtank. He is actually quite red. I knew I couldn't get a "DPC good" entry with little light and a quick red fish, so here is what I ended up with. I actually like it a lot. It will score horribly, but what can you do.

Shot in RAW: adjusted white balance

PS:
Various Hue/Sat, Curves, Brightness/Contrast, and Selective Color layers. Added noise (why not?), USM, save for web.

It's nice to see that some of you guys liked this as much as me! Thanks a bunch!

i'm one of your 9s. knew you were going to get blown out of the water score-wise, but it's still great and one of the better images in the challenge, to my eye.

Aw man - I loved this photo during voting, though I already knew it wouldn't appeal to the masses. Your title is really inspired, too. Great crop and grain - it's very deep-sea-ish, yes, very subconscious. I commend you for submitting a photo you liked even if you knew it wouldn't soar. As you can see by the 45 votes of 6 and above, some of us thought it's pretty cool.

Hahahaha we are on the same level here, I thought this was lovely! Great DOF, magnificent crop (enough to let me know what it is, nice balance I think betbween the dark misterious background and how much space the fish takes over the frame!) nice yellow too and I do love the sexy noise on it!

This is way to grainy for my tastes.

cool shot, the noise adds to this shot, imo.

there is too much noise, probably because low light conditions and/or ISO too high! :(

I'm not sure what to make of this one. Grain is something I don't mind at times and it works ok here. Kind of an abstract feel to this with the comp. I can't believe I'm still looking at this trying to decide if I like it or not...guess that's a good thing...making the viewer pause. For that, and the gonads to enter this, I'll score it slightly above avg. Good luck.

Normally I would say that noise in this quantity is pretty undesirable and I am still close to continuing to agree with that, but this is almost pushed so far that it is almost a positive thing and adds to the image. I am sure there will be plenty of voters that disagree though. Well composed

Dark and noisy.

Nice macro, except a bit of more noise inside the picture. Probably a lower shutter speed would help here.
