I like it mostly though because it is family related. Plus I have some fun memories there, mice in the cabin at night, hike from hell, horses galore... Taken in Minturn Colorado.

I am also a line slut so this shot appeals to me. Sunset, eh, you know a bit over done here on DPC. I went nuts with the processing, something I normally don't do. BestOf, eh, figured might as well go nuts with all the sliders.

Currently I'm demoing the Nik Efex filters for Capture NX. Filters I used: Polarization, Indian Summer, Darken/Light Center, and Grad ND. I went nuts. First time using it though. The processing is a bit over the top for my tastes, but let's see what DPC voters think. Other than that it is a non-crop. I have a version cropping out the horse tie, but then you loose the smoke stack and window. I like the smoke stack. Used a control point to bring out the whites in the flowers. The only thing that isn't true to color in the shot is the sky, the pink is pretty close, but the blue was not as prominent in real life. Maybe a bit too dark, maybe not..depends on what screen I look at. Time to buy a calibrator.

ISO 200, F4, 1/40s with my ND grad filter on my 20mm.
This is the epitome of a snapshot. Walked back a dozen paces. Focused and hit the shutter. Went back and ate some hotdogs and smores. Yummy. Should have been at f8/f11

Here are some of my other favorites from the year, not counting challenge entries:

Here is my original straight from camera. As you can see I underexposed to preserve the highlights.

As for the image above, I'm guessing around a 5.5 for such a difficult field. Good luck all.

I really enjoy this shot. I love the colors and the whole cabin-in-the-mountains theme.

I smiled when I found that it was in Minturn, Co. For the last decade some school friends and I do a backpacking/fly fishing trip up into the Holy Cross Wilderness. The diner in Minturn (Turnstyle Diner?...it has a train theme) is always our last stop before venturing off into the wilderness. Beautiful area of the country. You really captured that with this shot. I have three shots of this area in my portfolio - on two I tried HDR for the first time to bring out the colors - but it looks a bit cartoon-ish.

This is a wickedly beautiful photo. I can't beleive that it didn't score higher, but score aside this is gorgeous. Brillian capture!

Don't hate it because it's beautiful. Not every fantasy is rebellious. You played this well.

Amazing to see the detail you pulled out of the image, just by going nuts with the sliders. ;)

IS this the photo you were talking about? It's beautiful! I love that the trees point to the gorgeous sky. You have done an amazing processing job. What a wonderful place to spend a family vacation. Looks like a fun area to explore. Congrats on the 6+ score!

I seem to remember this cabin and wild flower field from another photo you posted. It's a beautiful spot. I love the processing on this image. It's amazing how much you were able to pull from the darkness of the cabin and trees.

Jayson, the colors are magnificent here. You did a wonderful job of processing from that original - I'm impressed. It doesn't look grainy at all. It makes me want to drop everything and go hang out at that cabin for awhile - this photo looks simply magical!

This is one of those shots where I seem to have disagreed with most voters, since I was one of the two 9 votes. I thought this was fantastic.

It seems like shots like this which seem to be about personal memories and family stories don't do well since they often feel like those snapshots with little thought put into the composition and even less in the editing. I love that this shot had that feel of something that probably meant a lot to the photographer, serving as a memory of a great evening with friends and family, yet it is beautiful and something worthy of hanging on a wall.

Yes, the editing feels just a bit overdone, but the scene is so wonderful that it doesn't even matter. And, seeing that original compared to your final image reminds me that so many shots that I would discard as useless probably have some hope and life in them. Wonderful job with this shot!

Jayson, this is a very beautiful shot. I can't vote because I know it's yours but in my mind, this should easily surpass the 6 mark. This isn't the shot you wanted to self DQ is it? I hope not, this is great.

very painterly! I like how my eye is led from the cabin to the trees.

Nice composition...Processing is a little overdone and turns the image into almost painting (maybe that is what you were going for). I think it takes away from the result. Nonetheless, not a bad entry. Good Luck. 6.

Those three pine trees just seem so perfect - acting kind of like guards to the cabin, or at least keeping it company. What a lovely place!

A delightful image, it looks like an advertisement for a tourism board.
