 These are dried turmeric roots that were used as both medecine and tincture for textiles. I use them in food - they are what gives curries their yellow color. They will stain whatever touches them, including my hands after the shoot.

PP steps:
From RAW, converted in LR
The transferred in CS3
Adjustment layer for exposure to recover a bit of the highlights (histogram OK in LR but slighty clipped in CS3)
Adjustment layer to boost contrast
Adjustment layer for hue/saturation of the yellows
USM

Save for web

I think this is a great idea, though the eyes/face being out of focus unsettle me a little :)

Interesting concept, but I feel more DOF would benefit the hands and roots. Great composition, nice colors.
