 The waves and water move the sand dramatically at Lumahai Beach.

This particular wave was only about a 12 footer. Under the white water is a huge rock about 10 feet high and the water is about 6 feet above the rock shown here.

One day I saw someone get washed off this rock with a much smaller wave, she was lucky to be alive. 5 minutes later a series of 6, 20 foot waves crashed over this same spot and no one could have survived the beating against the rocks.

It is dangerous but beautiful.

Wow, this one is really amazing. The sand is really being turned over huh? I can't even imagine getting knocked around by one of these gaint waves. Love the sky and the little clouds in the background too.

I get some of the feel of what you are saying with the color in the foreground. That combined with the wave behind it a feeling of a really big way crashing on the beach.

Ah, those Hawaiian waves. Love this dramatic photo and the three broad stripes of sky, water, and moving sand.

I remember body surfing once and getting tumbled in waves like this as if I was in a washing machine. I was picking sand out of my nooks and crannies for a week. :-p
