I spent overnight in the town I grew up in.

It's a VERY pretty town one hour from Melbourne and when I tell people I was raised there they always say 'It's SO BEAUTIFUL - what a great place to grow up.' But it wasn't. It was small town, a place where everyone knew everyone, gossip was the town sport and if you were different ... well ... you really felt excluded.

I am an escapee - my family still live there, so I take my children for visits. And because of this side challenge, pushed myself to visit sights where memories were waiting to rush back at me.

This is the town swimming pool, the place where someone who was supposed to love me unconditionally told me otherwise - and I still remember it like it was this morning - SIGH!

Nice shot - a nice encapsulation of your experience. I know exactly what you mean - great to grow up and get out.

The chain link fence perspective is very fitting to the story. Vibrant colors.

wow you carry some emotion still eh? this image is quite poignant in its telling of a place once filled with joy and now the scene of sad thoughts & memories...BUT I also see a poolfilled with light & ready to be jumped into and a day just SCREAMING with possibilities and waiting to be lived, so on with it now! Get out and celebrate your greatness today!:)

Your commentary makes this photo so meaningful and interesting. The perspective through the fence onto the empty pool - awesome.

This photo just screams 'emptiness'. The muted colours and the fence in the foreground give me the impression of alienation. I love the composition. The tree is cut off enough to make it look intentional, rather than an accident.

That's a sad story- unfortunate that those memories stay with us forever. Your image depicts the lonliness of your story....

nice perspective and the fence adds some almost defensive emotion, sorry to hear about your memories though.

That fence is wonderful -- things that are so near and yet so far. Good processing, too.

What is most haunting about this is that a place of such beauty can have such sad memories. (assuming I read your piece right, which I think I did) The fence seems to really get your point of emotion across perfectly as well.
