Ok, so i predict some dnmc things on here because technically i am not following the details... this is one shot, but it displays the characteristics of time lapse photography.

Anyway, i couldnt be bothered with HDTR in the end, it meant an early morning on a sunday. So here is my entry... cant get worse than 100th place can it? ;) I like the shot and cant think it will completely bomb...and yes the shoes are actually the same make, model and size - i just got a new pair, and yes i bought the others 8 years ago...

Post Challenge

Wow! Never realised it would bomb so badly and that preconceptions rather than interpretations of a challenge title would affect it so much. Ah well, i suppose the pedantry of many when reading the description (which has been broken before and got a blue if i remember rightly) took this down to where it ended.

Not bitter really - i knew it was either genius or just going to brown end which i just missed out on :(

Thanks to all those who commented, i'm happy that at least some of you were in favour of the approach.

I liked it, it shows time lapse to me
01/15/2008 10:56:05 PM
For what it's worth, I thought it to be genius.

I think this is a great image. I agree that it might be a little stronger with the newer shoe on the left and the older one on the right. You deserved a better score than this. It's too bad people aren't more open minded.

I'm sure you are getting hammered for this, but it's not a bad idea. I think I would have rather seen a macro view to allow the viewer a closer shot of wear and tear vs. new.

Hmmm, I am in a real quandry - to me the photo really illustrates the challenge Title well, and I like the simplicity with which it achieves this, BUT, I don't see how it fits with the challenge description (use multiple captures of a continuous, single scene to demonstrate time lapse photography) at all.

Nice shot, but it does not meet the intent of the challenge:
To introduce our latest addition, use multiple captures of a continuous, single scene to demonstrate time lapse photography...

A simple clear shot that I am sure will get a lot of DNMC votes

I understand where you're going on this, but to me, it doesn't fit the time lapse. Technically, a really good photo.

Definitly a unique look at time lapse. While other images were combinations of several images, yours look at the before and after of shoes. Not sure how you found an exact copy of an old pair of shoes, but I like the different look at this challenge. Hope you do well.

that's more like elapsed time rather than time lapse. i don't think this photo fits in with the spirit of the challenge.

Nice idea, just dont think its in the spirit of the challange given the recent rule changes. The brief specifically states multiple captures and if it this is the case here, the end result could easily be achieved in easier ways.

Sod the technical tricksters. Brave move.

Well it took me a minute to get it but it is very clever. I would be really curious to see how you score. I hope the best for you.

There's not really enough of a difference between the shoes to pull off the 'passage of time' concept you are somewhat cleverly trying to pass off as time lapse. On the other hand, this is probably the one image in the challenge that didn't get a DQ request so perhaps you are the smartest of us all...

This really isn't following the directions of the challenge.

I see the point but I think it fails the challenge I would think.

I like it, don't know if voters will since it doesn't appear to be multiple shots which most are expecting.

I have to commend you for going outside of the box on this one. Well, in my opinion you have gone outside fo the box. You have taken a challenge that many of us expect to see one thing and given us a completely differetn interpretation of it. Unfortunately, I can only image the amount of DNMC comments that precede my comment.

As far as the image itself goes, I think that the vast amount of white negative space is a distractor to the image. While others may think it is genious, I find it to be overdone.

I like your idea and the fact that you took the risk in doing this, I just wish it was done a little differently. Still I am giving you a 6 for it.

I think it's western culture and reading, but I'd like the new one on the left, like you read a book.
