It's not in focus both in terms of its subject matter or its clarity.

Well, here's my two cents. :)
First of all, the image is a bit blurry. Making sure everything is focused and sharp is key to getting a good shot. Also her glasses frames are blocking her eyes a bit, something I personally might have tried to avoid by taking this from a different angle... Then there's the pose - she looks like she's reaching up for something, giving this a sort of snap-shot like feel. Not that candids are bad or anything, but the position she is in looks a little akward.
Hope this was helpful. :) Very good work on the lighting though - it's beautiful!

Seems like an average snapshot. Your file size is only a fraction of what what is allowed. Check your JPEG compression settings and use as close to the limit as what you can, without going over it. (150k for basic editing, and 200k for new rules advanced) That will keep you from losing image quality to JPEG compression.

wish i could tell what she was doing better.

Needs to be sharper.

I like the lighting and the framing. I do think that the models arm is a bit distracting, though.

I hate to say it but this could be the brownie.

The arm doesn't work unless we see more to get the context.

lack of composition, poor focus, messy background

Terrible composition - what is her arm doing? One might argue it's a leading line to her face, but then she should be facing the camera more. As it is here, it's a distraction as is the fish/bird thing on the wall in the background.
