A Zambian landscape

Yesterday was spent in Embassies, getting insurance – or not – as we decided to buy insurance at the borders. I do have a very exciting new passport stamp – for Tanzania! $50 US! ARGH! Negotiating Embassies and bureaucracy in Africa is a very steep learning curve. Who to act helpless with, whom to act authoritative with. Gauging if crying will soften up one person. (O, yes, we are shameless) The offices tend to be dingy and brown, the Embassies marble coated and grand.

We went around the market and M picked up a sarong in a little shop around the back of the main building in the market. You stood at the counter in the door, and pointed to the cloth you wanted. They had acres and acres of colourful cloth in there. Blue painted walls, and the light from corrugated plastic on the roof. A little grotto of cloth. I waffled, confronted with far too much choice, and didn’t buy. I wish I had lots of money to get them all. We are coming back through Lusaka, but I’m terrified I’ll regret not buying.

Her gaze is so intent, I feel compelled to turn and see what got her attention. There's a bit of suspense to this.

It's so lush and so expansive! For some reason, I really like the fact she's wearing a plaid shirt - seems to pre-date the time you were actually there. And did you get a shot of the live chickens being waved at you?
