It´s an old custom to "burn the old year away" in Iceland. All around the country there are bonfires on that night. This year the wind was blowing very strong in the whole Greater Reykjavík area - so the Bonfires were postponed until the evening after.

i can almost hear this fire roaring in my ears. the people put the photo into perspective nicely but are not pleasing to the eye. perhaps another way of lending proportion...
