 These are some paint brushes that we picked up at the Chosun Gift Shop on Yongsan Garrison. The Chosun Gift Shop is run by the Enlisted and Officers Spouses on Yongsan. Their procedes go to helping out both American and Korean charities. They send buyers out all over Asia to buy goods and have them shipped back to the store. It is a very popualr place amongst service members and their families here because of the uniqueness of the items like these brushes and the holder they are sitting in.

What I couldn't show in this image as the handles of the brushes. One of them is jade, the others a form of glass. They have some detail in them and they are really neat.

This was a pain to shoot because of the rules. I wanted a straight out white background but the flash was causing me to lose a lot in the handles of the brushes since they are glass and reflect so easily. If I could have masked the whole thing it would have saved me from having to take the 200 photos to get this to look the way I wanted it. I took this in the softbox that I bought off eBay. It works well for stuff like this, but I should have busted out the studio strobe instead of using the Vivitar flashes.

PP was simple. I bumped the levels up, cropped, then used Apply image with soft light set to about 50% I used the shadow highlight to get a bit more detail in the black bristles and then I resized, sharpened and saved for web.

Prediction on this is a 5.4XX.

One of three 10's I gave in the whole challenge.. This should have placed much higher! I saw the jade handle right away, this is a lovely shot and a nice set of brushes to own!

The frame is too dominant for the delicate nature of the bristles, which are the main 'subject' here - in my opinion.
