 took this for the self-portrait challenge and then decided against entering it. my ego couldn't handle the blow if it did poorly and i *know* the focus and lighting could have been better... not to mention the whole me part of the picture ;)

post-processing in PS
crop
colors to get rid of some ugly yellow tones
cloned out dog hair on my background and ::coughs:: minor skin imperfections ::coughs:: and minor shadows
dodge/burn a smidge on eyes and hair
a little gaussian blur in a background layer (only like 20% opacity)
and VOILA!

In all seriousness, this would have scored well. I would have given it a 6 or 7, FWIW. The soft focus actually works well here, and the lighting isn't bad at all.
