manual exposure because I didn't trust the snow. The distortion on the left is due to a cheap macro extension. I cropped off the right half so you don't see it there.

Believe me, you don't want more detail on the woodsman. I know, because I was the woodsman!

Don, your style and my tastes do intersect sometimes, and this is one of them. :) I like the warp on the left side and the woodsman's pose - they both speak of someone getting ready to face the unknown. Scrolling around, I think the composition would be stronger if you cropped off much of the snow.

I think the blue gives it a great sense of motion, Don. And I agree with colorcarnival, you don't know if woodsman is good or bad...

a bummer?? I wouldn't have posted this photo without the blur! learn to love the blur...

This is the woodsman entering the magical forest full of fairies and hidden castles? lol Or is he going after Hansel and Gretel to get their bread? So many ways to interpret this. I like the brownish tone but the blur is a bummer.

Ah - what atmosphere! Love your processing. Too bad the commenters weren't the only voters.

i had a feeling this was yours. and, in response to Art R, fairy tales are, in essence, nightmares made tame.

Dark and moody......gives me the creeps but good.

Something of a hatchet job, no doubt; and of course, one should never trust snow.

This was amongst my top picks for the challenge - it has that darkness and sense of impending doom, so typical of the Germanic fairytales, in abundance.

Great image! Love the cheap macro extension distortion effect. :)
My assessment of the mediocre score is this is more nightmarish than fairy tale-ish. I see no happy ending here - just lots of red snow - maybe that's just me. ;-)

I know there are woodsmen in many of the stories, but this doesn't feel much like a fairy tale to me. In the long run that doesn't matter, because the image will last long after the challenge is forgotten, and I really like this image.

5.5? Whats the deal with that?

OOh I like this. It's going to sound strange but I wish the woodsman was a little less dark so Icould get just a hint of his features 8

dark and threatening, the blur on the left works very well indeed. it might benefit from a bit more tone in the foreground, but only a small amount - that wide swath of white is bit overpowering

awesome contrasts! A great shot.

I am not quite sure the reason for the selective blurring. I like the image overall. The only other area I have issue with is the foreground as it appears a bit blown out.

Not sure the motion blur on the left works for me. Quite a lot of empty space a the bottom of the image which would have worked better if there was perhaps some footprints to lead the eye into the image and towards the woodsman.

This is quite scary - looks like a serial killer looking for his next victim. It's also very effective, so 8 from me.

Very Stephen King-esque.

Wow. This is awesome. reminds me of a northern version of "deliverence".

The blur on the path makes it extra spooky. Great job. 8 and a fave.

There is just something about this image I really really like. The angle you took the challenge from is great - not pretty, soft or colorful but an interesting depiction of one of the unsung heroes of RRH. I like this alot. Bumping up 2 and adding to faves.
