Childe Rowland

Yes, it is a fairy tale! I thoroughly enjoyed the books (the Dark Tower/Gunslinger) series written by Stephen King which was inspired by this and Robert Brownings Childe Roland to the dark tower came. Childe Roland to the dark tower came.

This was taken in the cemetery my grandfather is buried in. I have no idea what the purpose of the building was, but it's longer used. If you go at twilight, it's really creepy.

Editing: Some filters applied and faded, high pass applied and faded. Cloned out some small branches and and odd metal piece that was sticking out of the tower. Dodge/burn. Resized and USM.

I think you got some interesting comments, Kelli. :) Looks like my suggestion to try to rescue some detail in the shirt just netted you one complaint about it being flat gray. Sorry!

Well I liked it alot! I thought it looked like it would be a very fitting cover to the book (and I loved that series, too.) Maybe overedited for DPC's tastes, but as I said, quite fitting for the book after which it's titled!

I like it - dark and eerie - pretty cool! Love the shadow from the tree.

I see this as the first in a series of popular books and movies.(Harry who?)

The sword isn't visible enough against the tower, but the shadows against the bricks are great.

Interesting idea. Something about the contrast looks wrong here, though. For example, what should be white on the boy's shirt is actually a sort of burnt, flat gray. If there were any way to fix that, that would increase the impact of the photo. Good try though, those shadows on the tower create a really neat effect!

Cool stuff. Reminds me of Link in Zelda.

Interesting use of pp. Not sure I like the major dodging and burning.

It's a bit unfortunate that the sword is on the same line than the tower edge, because you lose perspective. Else it's great.

Zelda. That's what I'm thinking. Nice shot.

I like the shot and what I think you're trying to do but this is one of those images that feels overedited with too many filters and post processing. I really think it would do better in simple black and white with only level tweaks.

The idea is good. Having the sword blade running exactly along the line of the tower kind of hides it.

interesting, great concept, but maybe a little too overprocessed for me. 7

Something about the lighting on the figure doesn't look right and appears superimposed into the tower image and seems very disconnected. Holding the sword in the air comes across to me as being comical which is quite the opposite feeling I get from the tower and the sky and this further adds seperates the tower and figure. Lovely tones and patterns on the tower, would have had more impact on its own

Uh...something looks off with the subject. Like the arm is in the wrong spot. I'll have to take another look later...

I think without the filter you used this would have doe much better. The light and shadows on the tower are great, but you lost a lot of details with the edit.
