A homeless or just drunk man taking a kip on the busy thoroughfare to the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa.

If this had been more than Basic Editing, I would have lightened the lower left corner, but as it was B.E., I thought I'd better not fiddle around and do something illegal. {°¤°}

Japan has some beautiful and really contrasting scenery. I've never seen a picture of someone sleeping on the street. This would be normal in NYC, but not here. Good shot but there are a lot of distractions other than the crowd that grabbed my attention, so it took some time to find the subject. I think cropping everything from the Kirin tent and right would help.

A little too much shadow to really see the subject for me.

The title subject is terribly obscured by shadow. If you had metered for the shadows and let the highlights get blown out, the subject would have been clearer.

he's definitely alone in a crowd, but his position in a frame does not really attract attention. I think it was possible to place camera closer or maybe used longer shutter speed (since he's static) and increase blur of movement of crowd, or some other way increase the attention to him and separate from crowd visually

At first I didn't see your subject, perhaps a lower angle?

I would have changed perspectives on this and perhaps shot from the ground with the sleeping person as the main focus and then the feet walking around him. Unfortunately, he is also in the shade on a fairly contrasty day and is very hard to find in the picture. THe person looking his way is a nice touch... but overall.. my eye doesn't know where to go. Most shots (but not all) need some sort of anchor for a scene -- putting the sleeping person (or even a foot or any element int his scene) in the foreground would have created a more interesting image.

The subject is neither well lit nor compositionally at a strong point

Now that's relaxed! LOL!!

I think the idea here is very good, and a fine example of the challenge title.

This is almost a picture of two halves - if you run a diagonal line from the top left corner to the bottom right. right hand side is bright and colourful with the sky, roofs, signs, etc which draws the eye towards it whilst the left hand side is darker and more muted in tone. Then in this darker area there is a person lying down in dark clothes visually disappearing from the picture.

Now in many ways this could be sen as a near perfect example of the challenge title - here is an individual who is very much alone in the crowd and they have further emphasised it by lying on the ground (not a bench or anything elevated) in dark clothes, (to help stay 'invisible) in the shadows. And they are so successful that only one man in the crowd is clearly looking at them.

So I have a gentle dilemma, on the one hand ideally it would be nice to have the individual more visible, easier to connect with - but on the other hand there is a level of subtlety here which makes you work harder to find the person and identify with them which I really like. Good shot.

Would have liked to seen more light on the subject ... be blends in too well

Would have been better if the focus was on the sleeper. I would not have viewed him/her if it were not for the title.

The subject is hidden from the dark shadow. You should have gone closer to the object and shoot from his level.

Interesting...maybe a lower angle and a little flash to help with the shadows though would help.

If you removed the top half of this image it would convey "alone in a crowd" much better. As it is I needed the title to work out what was going on.

The subject, being so much in the shadows, is hard to find.

I really like this concept. However, there isn't anything to lead the viewer's eye to the subject. I normally don't consider the title of an image when judging a challenge (the image really should do most of the talking) but if it weren't for your title I wouldn't have seen your subject and even then I found myself searching the image for him/her.

"Alone in a crowd" is exactly what is depicted here.... I just feel that the subject does not stand out of the rest of the crowd (maybe beacause of teh shadows). Nice but sad picture, I love it.

Maybe a different angle would accentuate the sleeper more.
