288 +1 pencils (1/2 off screen .. they came pre-sharpened .. golf pencils & one loaned from my daughter ..)
BTW: this is where a tilt/shift lens shines - being able to focus across the plain ..

..title .. i was thinking of binoculars.... nothing else ..

Love this photo, while I am not a picture taker, I am a huge fan of this site and love to look and try to guess a winner. I have been right most of the time....yours was the one I chose from this group and put as my background on my desktop at work.

Great job! Congrats! I think what I like (from a non-photo person view) is the grain of the pencils along with the symetry of all the black lead just makes the white jump out that much more. I wish you more ribbons in your future. Good luck.

Very nice shot. It looks like pencils, but the "wood" looks so coarse, more like a sheaf of grain. Good placement of the white tip in the thirds.

Very sharp (no pun) and great dof. This is really mesmerizing forrest of pencils. It looks like there's a pencil missing in the first row, 3rd spot in. Perhaps it was just sharpened too short :)

By far the best of the pencil/crayon/marker shots. Feels incredibly crowded by the similarities of all those brown pencils, every last one of them in focus, and then the white one just jumps right out as being different. Perfectly illustrates the challenge concept, IMO.
