Interesting information about shooting snow. It is highly reflective and recently did an edit w lots of trouble w snow.
I love your picture how the pod stands out, the explicit detail,, Personally i like the contrast however can see the glare from the snow cap..

I like the detail in the seed pod, and the composition of this image. The water is overexposed, losing the exquisite textures of the snow particles at the center of the snow. It's a tough trick to shoot snow with anything else because it is so strongly reflective. I generally shoot it at the highest EV level that I can see the detail in the snow when doing macro, then bring levels up on the other things in the shot in processing.
You may want to shoot with wide dynamic range setting with the D80 when shooting snow too, which will also help with that. There is huge EV range between the black stem and the brilliant white snow in this shot. |

Nice texture on pod, and focus on seed emerging. Oddly joyful with its big snow cap. |

Oh, that's lovely, Is it a milkweed pod? I've always enjoyed their graceful shapes and now I see they hold a nice 'cup of snow' too. |
