I shot these tealites on my kitchen table in a low light situation. I tried a slightly slower shutter speed (to capture more light) and a high aperature value. Originally I was going for the one candle not lit idea, but as I was finishing I figured I'd shoot this as well. I thought it made for a better shot.

Here is what I like about the shot, I like how the light seems to reflect off the wax and the metal of the other dishes, that really brings a nice feeling to the photo. I wish there were a few more candles in the background rather than the black space, but just a nit pick more than anything.

I enjoy the candlelight's civil disobedience

it's really hard capturing candle light without blur. this is amazing. i like how the flame is the focal point, but the other candles aren't lost.

I like the idea and the crop is good, but it's lacking interest for me, I wonder how it would look shot from the top?
or if you had some smoke from the blown out candles?

Nice idea. I feel a creation of a line through the photo leading up to the lit candle may have helped give it a little something more.

Very nicely taken shot. Looks great.

Great concept, but I think the reflection of the flame in the candle in front of it is distracting.

Not bad

I like the concept and the title, although its simple, all the other wicks look really crushed and down, and the one you have lit is the straight up and showing the rest what's what. Good job.

I like your idea. I wanted to do something similer. I was thinking of the candles you light in a church when you are praying for someone.

Simple, elegant and compelling. I like it!

Lovely, and a good match for the challenge. I like the title too.

Nice composition. I guess the lit candle could be sharper.

maybe if every candle but one was lit, that would show 'defiance' to me, but otherwise concept is good...
