Bit of a story about this shot, but first things first

This is Rugby Union a game I love and used to play

I love the fact that rugby allows you to get all your aggression out in a controlled manner but is also perhaps the only team sport where respect for the referee is the highest order of the day. You call him sir, you NEVER dispute a decision and the ref talks to you throughout the game guiding you to ensure you dont transgress any rules

I used to play second row and also used to jump 4 in the lineout. This meant that I used to get lifted as demonstrated in the picture above. If you have a look at the shot you will see that the lifters are using straight fingers and are just under the jumpers thighs. This means that you centre of gravity can get really skewed and it is an amazing and slightly unsettling feeling when you go up like this

Also two things to note - 1. Other than gumshields and the odd bit of bandaging there is no padding. 2. Rugby players generally play for the full 80 minutes, there are not offensive or defensive teams and you are on the go for the whole game

As for the shot, well this is at the local rugby club. As I took it I KNEW I had captured it perfectly and I came home thinking I may have my free study shot for the month, but when I downloaded the shot it was massively noisy and it was at that time I realised I had nudged my camera settings and had been taking the lowest quality shots possible....SIGH!!!!

Anyhoo I still love this shot

I love reading your comments:)
Too bad your settings were off, a little less noise would have been great, but I love it anyway, it makes me smile.
I feel your pain, it always seems my favorite shots (that look great on the camera) turn out to be blurred or noisy on the computer. Its very dissapointing.

What joy and love of the game in one image - nice work. Clearly, the image is very noisy, but I think the expressions on the face outweigh the technicals

Sorry you didn't get your perfect shot, but this is a very fun picture. You stopped the action which is hard to do even with the high quality settings. Some times a noisy shot looks great in B&W with contrast, it makes it appear sharper.

Based on your description of Rugby players, I'm getting that they're weak and fragile boys, right? So because of this I'm wondering if anyone has ever been dropped from the lift? (Serious question, not a serious impression though)

Great composition, and I love the motion you obviously caught. Not a typical image, which makes this very cool. And yes, the sky could use some help, but you may just have to leave England to get a nice sunny sky.

Too bad the sky did not cooperate here as it is too strong here - the faces of the two players are not easily seen. Also I would pull back farther as the backs of the three players seems to take over. Then perhaps a bit of S&H might bring out the people better.
