saw these pieces of popcorn and they reminded me of teeth that had been extracted, just waiting for the tooth fairy to come and swap them for some money :-)

LOL nice. With an image this stark anything other than your subjects and the background will immediately draw attention. So, in the bottom left there as small as that is my eye immediately goes there. Still a nice job on a very different take.
This shot is too symmetrical, it takes out the interest in the shot. Try taking it on an angle instead of straight on, or move the kernels to a third instead of right in the middle. The composition is just lacking interest.
