 At the turn of the century, Buddhist layman Yi Kab-yong built about 80 stone pagodas over a period of 10 years under a cliff of the southern part of Mt. Maisan in South Korea. He gathered stones from all over Korea for the pagodas, some of which are 10 meters tall. Adhering to strict asceticism and living on raw herbs and pine needles, he piled up stones day after day; they are so solidly placed that years of wind and storms have failed to destroy any of the pagodas. I visited the temple on a hazy Fall morning shortly after sunrise. The leaves on the trees were turning but these beautiful flowers remained vibrant inside this particular prayer garden.

The flowers are very bright, and take up more space in the scene than the temple, so I almost missed seeing the temple.
