Challenge: The Four Elements (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S5000 Z
Location: my kitchen
Date: Feb 14, 2004
Aperture: 8.0
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/2000

I made this with a lot of trial and error, hard to get the slpash at the right moment.

I used photoshop to tuch it up, and adjust the color. Also used Neat Image to clean it up.

*Greetings from the Critique Club*

Very interesting shot! :)

First Impressions:
Honestly, when I first saw this I though "Oh no, not another waterdropshot." But after looking at it for another second I realized how clean it was. Colors seem kinda flat. Overall impression though was that this is a nice shot.

Composition:
Honestly, I really enjoy the composition here a lot with the off-center subject, it gives it a little bit more of a dynamic feel to it. At first I wasn't quite sure about the no drop thing, but then I really looked at the shot and thought how hard it must have been to get it that way. Also, not having the drop there kind of steers it away from the cliche. I would second one of the comments mentioned earlier, that there should possibly be a little more action, like having more droplets. Overall, it is a technically sound composition and set-up, very nicely done.

Other:
I do feel there could be a little bit more saturation (even though your blues are quite beautiful), i think it would make it feel more dramatic, but that's just me, because for some reason it does kinda feel slightly washed out. Excellent focus by the way, very crisp and defined. Also the lighting is quite good. I LOVE the textures of the ripples! The are smooth, flowing, and crisp. I think upping the saturation and contrast would help this a lot.

Anyways, this is a very cool shot that kind of steers away from the other cliched drops. Very nicely done!

Must be even harder to not capture a drop!

simple, effective, excellent. Maybe next time with the drop in the photo. Great!

nice abstract quality; good placement in the frame - to make this a higher scorer (imho) I'd like to see a bit more action - the drop or splash droplets - especially given the title.

This has a familar look to it. It has a color that totally reminds me of Kiwiness' trick shot with the martini glass. should be in the top 10, maybe even a ribbon. Very well done and the first 10 of the challenge for me

Beautiful shape of the impact here :) Nice colors in it too, I think there should be a bit more space on the right or mabey something different in the cropping, I like the reflections in the ring But I think the picture itself is a little flat , mabey something to do with the cropping or lightning dont know :) Good luck :)

It's so perfect... I wish I knew how to do that

This is an awesome exposure, but there is something about the balance that is disturbing to me. I can't pinpoint it but it is just there. 7

I'm not swayed by fancy splashes, but I like this one because it is unique, mysterious, and tells a subtle story.

I never tire of these shots.....would like to konw how you did this and where is the item that created the splash.... or isn't this water......

this photograph is insanely clean.. i wouldn't assume it was a photograph if it weren't on a website devoted to photography. it must've been tough, or you're just big into post processing like a hax0r.

i imagine this is going to do quite well.
