It's just too abstract.

I see the pencil! It's in his throat! He swallowed it. OK, the pencil is in my mind, but this does meet the challenge, but barely. In my opinion.

LOL! This is really funny. I am sure you are going to get quite a few DNMCs. :) So, where IS the pencil here? :)

How does this have anything to do with a pencil......? Or with the challenge? I'm guessing this may have been entered as a joke or something..but I guess we're not getting it...

Comical shot and title! A lost pencil is still a pencil though, isn't it? ;)

You know what? I've come back to bump this up because, well, this is meant to be a fun challenge and you had a bit of fun with it, and the shot made me laugh. Gotta give credit to a dnmc entry when they're at least memorable!

Good luck, hope you're not being torn to shreds too badly there...

Nice goose shot. Title isn't enough to convince me this is actually a shot of a pencil.

I'm afraid this looks like it had nothing to do with the challange and you just slapped the title on it.

Made me laugh once I realised where the pencil was! But the lack of pencil and lack of contrast will probably hurt the scoring.

I assume you were trying for the brown ribbon? Don't worry if you don't make it - at least yours is the one and only submission in this challenge that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

Okay, very funny caption, but truly a stretch for the challenge. Still, I'm amused.

OK, without the title this shot would have NOTHING to do with the challenge. its a snapshot shoehorned into the challenge, pure and simple. 2

Uhm...okay. For me, this appears just a quick candid and doesn't fit this challenge. Sorry.

Now this is just too much of a stretch for me. Let me suggest the following test to check whether your image might fit the challenge: Imagine giving only your picture (without the title) to somebody together with a multiple choice list of four or five challenge topics. And then ask them to guess what they think the challenge is. Your goal is to choose the other possible answers (besides the actual challenge title) in such a way that most people would choose the correct answer. If this task (choosing the other options to make sure the right one is selected) is difficult, your image does not fit the challenge.

The only thing pencil is the title.

I'm not sure what this signifies. It ate the pencil? Hence why it can't bend it's neck? Not Very clear.

LoL..."where's the pencil"? I never thought I would say something like that!! This image is rather dark on my monitor. I have to admit...this does not meet the challenge..sorry to say. :(

Pencil as subject was the objective of the challenge. Based upon that, I feel this image does not meet the challenge.

A pencil should be the subject. Needs sharper focus.

DNMC, low contrast, and looks like a quick snapshot stuffed into whatever challenge happened to be underway.

One could argue that--based on the title--the subject of this image is the pencil. However, the wording of the title makes the bird the subject (I haven't seen ..."), and things get even worse if you go solely by the image (there's no pencil at all).

With that aside, the image has nice colours, good contrast, and is composed fairly well. The expressions and timing are nice, but it's not the most exciting image.
