The shot looks prehistoric. Very cool and very befitting for this one of a kind carnivore.

Terrific shot, great colours.
My presumption that it didn't rank higher is that the head/eyes are slightly off focus. Good job, anyway. ;-Þ

OI OI OI David you are certainly putting that Fuji to work.. what do you think of it? I thought it was way better than the D200 to be honest, slower, but that was all. This is CRACKING! congrats.. try not to knock me off the fuji S5 front top slot too soon ok.

Incredible light. The green of the Mantis looks amazing against the rich autumnal reds and browns. Excellent!

great colours and composition, the redish background works very well with the bright green insect. I'm not sure how sharp this is but that's not a main concern as this is more about the image overall rather then a detailed study of the insect

This is one of the best macro shots I've seen. It has great definition. Sharpness and clarity are right on. Nice DOF and good colors. I also really like how you have composed this. Great work.
