I bet some people are going to complain about this being gross, but I think it's fascinating. We don't get this kind of closeup view of nature's grim reality very often. The mouse's bulging eyeball is an interesting detail mirroring the bubble and the snake's bulbous eye. To me, macro photography is all about showing us details we don't see at normal scale, so this is a 10 from me. |

Is this real, or is it a display of some sort? If real, wow, what a catch! If a display, well, still a neat picture :) |

This is gross to some point IMHO In terms of photography the sharpness is good and the shallow DOF is a good addition as well. Topic not appealing at all to me. |

This is really gross but in my opinion a really cool and different choice of subject for macro, your lighting and detail are nice and the color is also cool....I just can't look at it long because it makes me sick haha |

OK, I think you will end up getting voted down, but the shock value when this came up on my screen actually added to the shot overall. I doubt this will do well, but I hope I am wrong.. well done - brave entry. 9 |

Just when I thought it was safe to look at the monitor...
great work, but it will likely get voted down for the gross factor. I love the colours and the guts it took to get close and take this! 8 |

A stunningly clear macro of a gruesome scene.
It wouldn't be so bad if this was the wild but it's not. It's a man-made death and it's painful and unpleasant for the victim (unless killed humanely prior to feed which, due to blood looks like it hasn't been.). You'll probably get marked down for that compassion factor, but I'll overlook it because this is a tecchnically well shot photo.
Incidentally, I've kept snakes and pythons for many years and have always weaned them onto humanely killed, frozen food. It's illegal to feed live now in the UK. |

This HAS to be the most gruesome real-life thing ever entered in a DPC challenge. The popped eyeball is the grossest part :-) I'll be fascinated to see how this scores. Technically it's spot-on, compositionally fairly blah, wow factor is there, if only in a negative way LOL.
Good luck with it. |
