Anyways - this is the daughter of one of the families in our church. She is 14 - sorry Fetor - she wont be calling anytime soon ;). I had this idea earlier in the week but due to our crazy life schedule I wasnt sure if I could get her over to the house to shoot. By some freak chance they happened to be on our side of town for a short bit so they stopped by and I shot her and the family individually. I made a composite of the 4 that I will unhide after the challenge is over.

Lit with our ringlight from the one side, black velvet as the backdrop and shot with the 50mm. I did practically nothing to make the left side black. A bit of spot editing but just to soften up some harsh shadows and then some simple "pimping". But this is what I had envisioned and I am so glad it came out as it did. 6.61 is my current score. I shoudnt complain, but I was hoping for a bit higher. Whatcha gonna do. Maybe a top 20.

Curious what you are complaining about. This is a beautiful shot of a lovely girl which I am sure she will treasure forever. It's amazing!

"Whatcha gonna do." Well, for starters, quit whining. A top 10 doesn't exactly suck, and it's a gorgeous portrait. Your conscientious efforts to try new things and do them the best you can are regularly rewarded by results of shoots like this one - and by that I mean the photograph, not the DPC placement.

Very nice. You used shadows and made "half" part of the composition, instead of just lopping off her face at the edge of the frame.

Nicely lit, and covering half the face with hair was a clever touch.
