 To balance out the harsh sun rays hitting parts of the dresser, I used the room's overhead light, a wide aperture and slow shutter speed to give the overall image enough light, all trying not to distort the natural color & not have too many black shadows. I think it worked.

Although a very nice image, to me, this is more reminiscent of an example of DOF rather than the across the board soft focus as indicated by the challenge. 5

The narrow dof in the foreground was a good choice in making this hard wood piece soft and the great lighting works too. Good luck.
