Well, this was a fun shoot. :) My son was incredibly patient, and enjoyed dressing up. Him and his hamalayan hat have featured in a Free Study a few months ago, so maybe some people will recognise him.
Following Scalvert's lead, I've attached the belt to a coat hanger for support. The basket is one I collected on a business trip to Kuwait about 10 years ago. The white robe is actually a ghost costume, with the headdress tucked down inside, and the rug on the floor is actually a scarf picked up by my brother in law on a trip to india as a gift for my wife. I have a collection of exotic whistles and flutes, but couldn't find any of them today, so I've used a tin whistle.
The lighting setup is mostly a big window behind the camera, but also a flash top-right, and 2 lamps just outside the picture frame mid-left and mid-right. They really weren't strong enough, so they had to be as close as possible.
Editing is burning in of the edges, colour balancing, selective desat of the background, curves adjustments to darken clothing, and USM. The colour balance was really difficult, with some horrible green tones in the wall. I'm hoping the colour shift and desat have resolved this, but I'm working on a non-calibrated monitor, so it concerns me a little.
The result is not as nice as Scalvert's original (after all, only 3 people in this challenge are going to match ribbons with ribbons, and I don't expect to be one of them). With his 2 soft light setup and RAW capture, he's got some really dynamic lighting, particularly on the shirt. If I did it again, I'd try to do it without the daylight, and get an umbrella or something to soften the flash. I've also gotta get some RAW software that works. I shot it in RAW, but can't process the RAW to darken the costume, so I've had to make to with the DR in the JPG.

Great job in emulating Scalvert's photo! Love the addition of the colorful 'rug' (hey, I think I have the same table runner!) for it adds a punch of color to this composition. Details and lighting are wonderful. The boy's pose and expression as he calls forth the deadly 'beltsnake' is perfect:-)
LOVE this one - this is even better than the original. I love the attention to detail - the rug, the belt buckle on the belt, and the clothing the boy is wearing all make this a great shot.
