Playing around...this is my entry for the July free study, run against the Urban Acid photoshop action

original

I like the Urban Acid look sometimes, but not sure if it's suitable for this shot. I chose this shot at random - is there a particular kind of shot that's "good for" Urban Acid?

So consider this an experiment - does the action, here, improve upon the original, create something equally interesting, or make things worse? What say you all?

Well looking at the team suck thread it seems yesterday was your day, sorry I missed it. So today I went looking at your stuff and I found this gem.
They say a photo is worth 1000 words, but in this case 10,000 notes, a jazz tune if you will. Sharp of trumpet, snare, and keys, and yet a subtle sax morning days gone by. At first glance it seems the artists have never played together, after a moment the rhythm comes along playfully bringing a mish-mash of sound into a lively melody worthy of the street. Nicely playedâ€Â¦.

I don't really know what Urban Acid is but I am under the impression that it brings contrasts to the extreme. I think it would be cool to use it on a photo where the background buildings are not already blending together. I'd be curious to see the effect if the buildings were darker. Love the reflections you caught on the two top left windows.

I have never heard of Urban Acid, but I like this effect. I like the way it took away the shadow on the white wall and downplayed the bricks in the foreground. I would mask the high red wall to bring back that interesting color and texture, and I think I would mask the sign in the foreground to bring back some of that red.

I prefer the original because I like the friction between abstract and real. Urban Acid takes this further from the real.

I lke what it's done to the colours in the wall, to the shop sign and also the general bleaking out. There's a fair bit of perspective distortion in this shot though and it's emphasised by the way this process brings out the lines/geometry - little bit too much Urban Downers and Booze in there.

Then again, I can't see the original...

I think it works here. To me, the acid look works well on gritty, dirty, manmade scenes. So this fits!

I like the contrast in this shot. The urban acid really worked well.

I like urban acid and have used it on occasion. You're right that it needs the 'right' subject matter - and this photo seems appropriate. I like what has happened with the color tinge - I love that nasty insidious green. But what I'm not crazy about here is the brightness and especially the contrast - it's a little extreme for me, perhaps because I'm looking for dark and grungy. The other thing may be a side effect of sharpening or overprocessing - it's the jitters on what should be straight lines. Did you do anything besides run the UA?

The action greatly increases the contrast on this shot - some like your first commenter will see it as overexposed. I like the harshness it creates in this shot, though it does create additional somewhat unwanted sharpening on the lines of the windows (too many jaggies). If you want to see what can be done and done very well with urban acid, check out goodman's portfolio.

This appears to be overexposed, it's blinding.
