These concrete bags as well as news paper, cedar shavings and cardboard boxes flattened down were the insulation in the walls of the house we are remodeling. Can you say FIRE TRAP, I mean what were people thinking back then? When I told the owner what we found in the old part of the house he said that the old part of the house was warmer then the addition put on in the 1970's with proper insulation.
Kind of makes one rethink all this fiberglass stuff doesn't it. We have added 1 1/2" strapping to the walls so we can insulate with R-20 so I can only hope that it is warmer this winter for him then last because we have already taken all the old insulation to the dump.
