My dad went cockling yesterday and he's cooking them off this morning. Rather than discarding the shells straight away I thought I'd take a few photos. The 1.8 aperture lens really comes into its own with shots like this.

Cool, I was wondering what kind of shells they were. Do they taste like clams?? DOF works very nice.

Yes. The shallow DOF works quite well with this. Anything deeper and it would be too busy.

Wonderful play of texture and patterns with a nice tonal range as well.

Nicely done!

A new type of bokeh - cockle bokeh! I like it. This is one of the few times I think a very shallow dof on such a subject enhances the photo for me by magically blending subject into background in a very graceful way.
