Watching the setting sun on the river Sava in Belgrade.

Vesna is a friend of my mum's and we were sitting drinking beer and watching the sunset. The shot isn't really posed, she just happened to look towards me (as you do when someone is pointing a large telephoto lens at you)

I like the lighting a lot. For the purposes of a portrait I would like to see this cropped a lot, bringing it in to include just her head and shoulders. For a beer ad, this is excellent. It might be fun to play with a cropped version in PS. I'd try selective desat of the cushion and background with a warm tone (sepia?) added, and I'd also try blurring the background more. That might make it more of a portrait and less of a candid. You might also try the cropped version in B&W, which is always effective for portraits if the lighting is good.

I like the naturalness of it - makes for a good portrait of the person as I suspect she sees herself, more or less, which is a good thing to do. Things to watch for in the future - backgrounds (though the only part that draws my eye away is the white column in the upper right) and cutting off parts of the body in awkward ways. I read somwhere that if you have the arm below the elbow in the shot, keep all of the arm and hand. If you cut off an arm (hopefully not literally) there's some rule about where to cut it off. Light is good - I like the light that time of day with it's nice golden glow.

The pose looks relaxed and natural, which is easier to do with a surprise telephoto shot. The sunlight looks a little harsh on her though. The color is nice, but some of the "left" parts of her face look just a little washed out. Maybe it's just the contrast with the much darker background.
