Will - welcome to the party. Like the two other comments before - you have a great cat - very expressive face - but the onboard flash will have to go. You will get killed around here entering photos with harsh flash - even if it is the cutest kid, prettiest woman, or sweetest cat in the world. Natural light, diffuse light, good light is what does well around here.... |

again i agree with johnna, this cat shot i took in natural light:
experimenting with natural light will pay off in any type of shot |

Be careful of onboard flash when photographing cats and dogs, it washes out the black of the pupil because of the nature of the eye :)
Cute cat! Hopefully, we will see much more of it as your time here at DPC gets longer :)
