 Since this is not a very popular photo, I guess I wouldn't be ruining anything by telling you all what it is. It's the cone on one of my Celestion speakers. I always thought they looked like lights from a distance because of the way they reflect light and got the idea for the shot about 2 hours before rollover. All I did was hold a lamp about 3 inches away... focus was achieved by focusing as close as I could and physically moving the lens closer and farther away until the focus I wanted was achieved.

I wanted this to look like an optical illusion, and so I named it The Black Hole hoping the title would influence the way people saw it (either a hole or a cone) and it seems a surprising number of people saw it as a hole because of the title. It's kind of neat how perception can be influenced like that.

It's my highest scoring photo at this time (end of voting for this challenge)... and it took 3 minutes to take, 10 minutes to edit, and zero brains to accomplish... wierd how that works.

Btw, the color version looked almost the same, but with an orange cast over it.

Interesting image. I keep trying to figure out what it is. I like the texturre and I'm curious what the color version looks like.

i stopped trying to figure out what this is and am just enjoying it - the DOF is perfect - in focus at the center of the hole and then again along the upper right edge - very cool stuff
