I really like the idea, almost did it myself! The shot is well done, the needle almost looks like it's floating in mid air, the way you set it up is very nice. The DOF is a good idea but the thread in the background is almost too fuzzy and the end of the spool getting cut off is a bit distracting. If the single thread was in focus with the needle and the spool was out of focus I think I would like this shot much more. A 5 to start, moving to a 7

Seems kind of grainy, dont know if intentionally added, but I just dont like it, altough, good use of DOF. 6

noisy, looks like some compression issues. This just isn't a very clean nor crisp photo.

Nice composition, a little bit of noise reduction or blurring would improve it :)

The needle should have a sharper focus and a different or added soft light source to make the needle shiny would have really stepped up this image.

good idea a bit grainy though I think

This is so similar to another shot (no accusation implied). bound to happen once in a hwile, I guess. This one suffers from either over-sharpening or some other processing problem - the lines of the needle are very jagged. DOF might be too extreme for a really pleasing image, to my eye.

Can't get over how many people had the same idea. like the blurred background

Not much to look at in the photo. You could have at least shown a deeper DOF so that we could see the color of the thread. Grain is evident too.
