This necklace was made back in the late 1800's in Sanaa in Yemen; it carries the seal of one of the many very famous Jewish gold and silversmith who used to live and trade in the yellow and silver metals at the time.
On August 15 0f this year; 2007, My wife and I were entertaining some friends who visited us from Egypt, so we took them to Jerash festival, where we visited many stands from deferent countries of the world, one of which was that of Yemen; there, I asked the vendor of the silver if he had any old Yemeni jewelry, and after examining me thoroughly, he showed me four necklaces; I liked the one in the photo you see so I started bargaining with him. And to make a long story short, he asked for $2800 and I ended up paying him $1300; however, my wife did not like the deal and she thought I was deceived; and she kept on asking; what have you done? How do you know it is genuine? How can you pay $1300 without even a receipt?? What is wrong with you? And she just went on and on, until everyone else thought I must have gotten a sour deal.
The next day my wife took the necklace to our trusted jeweler in downtown Amman, and by 11:30 she called me on my mobile to tell me that our trusted jeweler had offered her $2000 for it, if she was willing to sell!!
On August 17, I gave her the necklace for our 27th anniversary; it was already in her possession, I just said it is yours honey.
I wanted to photograph the necklace the minute I bought it; and when filltheframe contest started I knew what I wanted to be in the frame!
Now, did I know it was real from the beginning? Well, the very first lines of this paragraph answer this very question very clearly.
I hope this photo will get over 6.5 |
