this picture was take at the 2007 Rolex Kentucky 3-Day Eventing in Lexington, KY. this was day 1 of dressage, and it poured. i'm from Washington and i know rain, but there it's a constant and freezing drizzle. over there it came in bursts of warm bucketfulls that hit without warning. i think i ruined our little minolta out there (it would only go on manual and nighttime setting for a while, but we had manual, so i didn't complain). so my friend and i are sitting in the middle of this downpour on hard metal bleachers, completely soaked despite the ponchos we sported advertising horse wormer and i tried to hide both my poor little camera and my one exposed foot(the result of a sprained ankle). you'd think that would be misserable, but all i could think was "i'm watching Karen O'Connor and Phillip Dunton ride and i just have to keep clicking the shutter!" i took somewhere around 6500 pictures in 5 days(those were only the ones i kept) and that was just because i only had a 512mb card in my camera. yeah, good week.
i didn't really do much to this picture. the hardest thing was cloning out some annoying lines in the dirt and around the top of the frame. other than that all i really used was levels, contrast and sharpen, cropped some stuff off the top and added a border. i should have done a better job with the cloning - maybe someday i'll go back and fix it.
