A prairie dog, sunning himself into a stupor.

I'm really proud of this shot - I saw it, thought about it, framed it and got it. No cropping done afterwards. That doesn't happen as often as I would like, but it happened here, and that's why it's my best of August. :)

---------------
post-challenge:
For me, this shot is about the prairie dog and his shadow - the shadow is a crucial part of the image, and an intended part of the composition.

Shot outdoors at a zoo in natural light. This was about 9:30 in the morning, bright sun, shining in from the right. No flash was used.

He's so cute! It's almost like he is meditating in the sun. Love the shadow too. Great perspective for this shot - it's like we are at his level, enjoying the sun with him.

It's wonderful for you to have achieved exactly what you set out to do. Congratulations on a well composed shot. I think his somber expression is a hoot. I really enjoy looking at this little creature. The focus and DOF are great.

Actually I think the use of the strong sideways light and dof to separate the prairie dog from the same color background is very good. Such a strange pose for the little critter.

Cute little guy. Would like a little more detail in the eye, if possible.

There is something very unattural about the lighting, guess it´s taken at a zoo indoors or did you actually use an off camera flash from the right to light this? Anyway, the harsh lighting and shadow just don´t seem to fit with this image in my opinion.

Great capture! I like how you have not cropped the shadow. Good work.

Nice cute shot, his chest is a bit blown out but nice dof. I think I would prefer him to be looking in to the shot,

This would have been nicer if you'd cropped the critter to the left third IMHO.
