 Day 48 Creatures

But it's dead. I noticed a dead cicada on the lawn a couple of days ago, and thought I'd eventually get around to doing some wing shots. I had a look today to find that it is mostly buried in a mass of dried grass - some other creature (or creatures) has made a nest there, probably feeding on the carcass.
This one is a more recently deceased cicada that doesn't have as much dried grass nesting around it.

The detail in the wing is so vivid that it looks like it's lit up from within. Gorgeous.

Still a pretty neat wing shot! The contrast between the grass & his brown wings is really nice. I remember when we had a bunch of those come up quite a few years ago, the dogs used to go nuts trying to catch & eat them!
