Being into astronomy as both a hobby and a vocation for so long, I've seen my share of meteor showers. However, I decided to drag myself out to see this one in hopes of catching a few images. Between 9pm and 1am I saw only about 20 meteors at most, only a couple of those being bright ones, and only caught two dim ones on camera. Ah well... it was a very pleasant evening otherwise!
This is a 386 sec exposure centered on Polaris, the north star. This image illustrates the rotation of the Earth on its axis; the stars appear as streaks not because they are moving, but because we are. Polaris remains nearly stationary and thus appears as a point rather than a streak, because it is in the sky at a point almost directly above the north pole of the Earth. The farther a star is from Polaris (in position in the sky, not actual distance in space), the longer the streak it leaves in a long exposure. |

good capture. The orange thing (looks like a planetarium or observatory or something) is a bit distracting because I keep looking at it. But, it does give a good anchor to the shot.

| So cool! I don't often see shots that show the circular rotation like this. Is it better to use a wide angle lens for shots like these? I want to take star photos but not sure which lens to use lol. Thanks for including the time in this - that gives me some kind of idea of what it takes. |

| gorgeous shot. My husband and I were a little underwhelmed by the meteor shower as well. Kind of a bummer. |
