Something a little bit different. :)
The shot backdrop is a shot I have taken before. The idea came to me while I was tuning out to Bob Dylans' "The Times They Are A Changin" from 1964. The shot depicts a particular track called "Hollis Brown". I love this shot for the rural landscape challenge

Hollis Brown
He lived on the outside of town
Hollis Brown
He lived on the outside of town
With his wife and five children
And his cabin fallin' down

You looked for work and money
And you walked a rugged mile
You looked for work and money
And you walked a rugged mile
Your children are so hungry
That they don't know how to smile

Your baby's eyes look crazy
They're a-tuggin' at your sleeve
Your baby's eyes look crazy
They're a-tuggin' at your sleeve
You walk the floor and wonder why
With every breath you breathe

The rats have got your flour
Bad blood it got your mare
The rats have got your flour
Bad blood it got your mare
If there's anyone that knows
Is there anyone that cares?

You prayed to the Lord above
Oh please send you a friend
You prayed to the Lord above
Oh please send you a friend
Your empty pockets tell yuh
That you ain't a-got no friend

Your babies are crying louder
It's pounding on your brain
Your babies are crying louder
It's pounding on your brain
Your wife's screams are stabbin' you
Like the dirty drivin' rain

Your grass it is turning black
There's no water in your well
Your grass is turning black
There's no water in your well
You spent your last lone dollar
On seven shotgun shells

Way out in the wilderness
A cold coyote calls
Way out in the wilderness
A cold coyote calls
Your eyes fix on the shotgun
That's hangin' on the wall

Your brain is a-bleedin'
And your legs can't seem to stand
Your brain is a-bleedin'
And your legs can't seem to stand
Your eyes fix on the shotgun
That you're holdin' in your hand

There's seven breezes a-blowin'
All around the cabin door
There's seven breezes a-blowin'
All around the cabin door
Seven shots ring out
Like the ocean's pounding roar

There's seven people dead
On a South Dakota farm
There's seven people dead
On a South Dakota farm
Somewhere in the distance
There's seven new people born

I was rummaging around, seeing what was accepted for the last rural challenge before I go and try to get something last minute and this popped up. Wow! As usual, and I was not surprised to see your name attached. And then I was brought immediately to Christina's World, which is one of my favorite paintings of all time. And this so reminds me of that, the push and pull between melancholy and hope, that I had to comment. You see, looking back on my own self portraits (most are not here) I am trying to recreate Christina's World. And here you have done that, only it is your world. So cool. And thrown in is a little bit of Turkey Pond, if only because it is a man with a purpose... I love everything about this you know. Excellent image.

Seriously, this is fantastic whenever I see it I got to stop by and look at it.

Really nice. This stands out as art among mere pictures.

Left a laudatory comment ages ago, but failed to post. Definitely the kind of picture that reminds me of why I think of photography as art, why I want to take/make pictures and is so good I don't mind I'm not there yet.

Nice one, mate. Both the tune and the photo. I like the sparse aspect a lot.

Leave it to you to find a wonderfully sparse monochromatic scene with an actual person in it for a landscape - most excellent!!!

Very nice photo...this looks like fine art lifted right from the 1930's or so. Well done!

...who lived on the outside of town? Probably my favourite of the challenge - the sparseness of the landscape is spot on for your imagery, with perfect placement of your lone figure. The viewer is encouraged to invent their own narrative around the picture - the sort of photo that can cope with many repeated visits.

Thought provoking. This capture poses many questions in my mind...where is he going?, what is going to shoot at?, what is the purpose of the structure in the background?

A true landscape tries to avoid having people in the image. However, I really like this alot...it's such a through back. The comp is dead on and the tones very nicely done. 10

Your photo gives me an historical 1930's kind of feel....or a shotgun wedding. Lol. Nicely done. I like it alot. Good luck in the challenge.

interesting shot, quite artistic and well composed. the greenish toning might not be the best choice.

excellent story here - whish the placement of the shack was a little more to the left to balance the image out a bit more

I like the story. Nice tones. Very nostalgic and the gun adds a nice line and definitely a punch to the mood of it.

I really like this image. Gave it a 9 last night before going to bed. Coming back around to comment I still really like this but I think that the color tones used could have been better. Kind of has a green hue going on in my monitor where I think a maybe more true sepia could have been better. Anyway, love the comp, simple and entertaining. Good luck!
