"few people paid attention to the topic"? In a Free Study" there is no topic. The Advanced editing rules say "You MAY use filters etc.", not "You should" or "You must". "using the rules to the full extent" ? That does not guarantee a good result, as we can see here. There isn't a single trace of photography left. I didn't vote on this because i thought it would be DQed anyway for use of special effects filters or for being literal artwork. if i had voted, it would have been a 1 (which i give out rarely), and I suspect the 9-voter was a troll.

Hi Jim,

read your comments in the forum but this image is really poor...excessive editing and special effects filters just don't go well in dpc. When you look at the quality of the best shots taken here and then look at this, it is no wonder it scored a 3.3. I am not being mean, just stating the facts for you for the future.

It is quite obvious that very few people really paid any attention to the topic. Either that, or I completely misunderstood it, but if so, I'm not alone, as there were a few others who took the Advanced Editing Rule to heart and used it to the full extent. The fact that just about every one of those shots which had effects work done on them got low marks can only mean that the vast majority of the voters either didn't bother to read the Rules, or didn't care. Sad, really...

There was one comment which had value: "A little more clarity and this could have potential." I can see the point being made. The effect I was going for was that of a pencil sketch of a deadbolt. I added the grain to heighten the contrast, but I might have overdone it.

I also appreciate the '9' that I got; at least one voter understood what I was trying to do: thanks!

I am not sure what effect you were going for here. Was it really meant to be this out of focus or grainy? I know the title says grainy but this is just hard on the eyes. A little more clarity and this could have potential.

I really don't understand this picture, is it a picture of lock with some sort of pencil filter applied? It doesn't really do anything for me, sorry. :)
