Challenge: Painting with Light (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G3
Location: Rjúpuhæð, Iceland
Date: Jan 25, 2004
Aperture: F/5.6
ISO: 100
Shutter: 4 sec
Galleries: Sky, Rural
Date Uploaded: Jan 25, 2004

This is a guarded area with a bunch of radio masts just 10 min drive away from my home. This was a sort of last minute shot, I just really wanted to try some shots with this method. Only took about 6-7 shots and went ahead with this one. The sign (that I lit with a standard flashlight) traslates into "Radiofield on Ptarmigan hill, No trespassing". (I took it from outside a fence, and Ptarmigan is a kid of bird)

I followed the basic editing rules on this one as my older ones. Ran it through NeatImage to clean up the 4 sec noise, did a tiny bit over-all levels, and just a bit of sharpening. No post-shot crop or other editing.

Not hoping on high grades this time, and do expect some remarks on it beiing too dark and the sign looking too edited (it just reflected the light that harshly).

Thanks for viewing and reading (sorry about the spelling), Tyrkinn

Hi Trykinn
These are such tough shots to get. I am actually amazed at the focus being as good as it is and the sign certainly stands out. My questions would be: by adding something besides a black border would it have brought the nice orange out in the sky and secondly could it have been improved with something other than ISO100? I too love to shoot at 100 and 200...nonetheless, I am sometimes forced into shooting at higher ISO's. Hope this helps. Thanks for posting.

The blue sign is bring your eyes right to it because of the great contrasting colors. The background really helps bring out the sign. The silhouettes have some nice abstract shapes.

nice job - the light picks out the sign and the bright color, leaving the rest cloaked in mystery. You've acheived an effect with light instead of post processing. neat.
