Challenge: Upside Down II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S9000
Date: Aug 3, 2007

This was taken in a stairwell fire exit, and yes, I held the camera upside down while taking it - had to rest it on the railing since the tripod doesn't work upside down! ;-)

I did flip the image horizontally - so that you can almost read the sign. Played w/ desat to make it stand out more. Other than that just crop and resize for web.

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited about this. (And will try to hold on to the feeling when my next few submissions don't do nearly as well, lol).

I had so much fun running around at work holding my camera upside down. As I mentioned in the scores thread - I apparently have found my niche. rofl

For Judi - this is what's around the corner (taken w/ a flash so that what's outside the door isn't blown out). I held the camera directly under the exit sign.

And some outtakes -

I thought this looked like an Escher drawing, but couldn't edit out the ugly metal railing on top.

The blown out grass (in the top of the window) was the best and the worst part of this.
Yes, I work in a very funky building, lol.

This is the only one I even considered of anything else - and I liked the title better than the shot. I called it "A Bridged Bridge."

ETA - not sure why the thumbs aren't working, but the links are.

Brilliant. It almost looks as thought it's upright at first, then you see the exit sign and relize something's really weird. Awesome shot! :)

I like the softness of the tones which contributes to the dreamlike (woozy?) feel to this amazing composition. Very subtle, very effective.

Clever use of light and mirroring (reflected or PP, doesn't matter - it works). :) Good luck in the challenge. ??? I just noticed the validation text. The mirroring must have fooled them. :D

That does look rather alarming, like the exit is to some alien place ("come into the light he-he").

really cool idea - upside down and invert image, right? the lighting is pretty creepy adding to the feel of 'no exit' - it almost seems as if you could not decide whether to make it grainy or shapr and because if that, it feels a little flat

What fabulous texture - it is unfortunate the image comes off a little soft. Sometimes you need to overly boost the sharpness before converting to a small JPEG in order to keep some of the detail. A little more contrast would have served the image well, too IMO. << 7 >>

Excellent...this looks so inviting...wanting to know what is around that corner...! As a child I used to lie on my back and wonder what it would be like to walk around on the ceiling as if it was the floor. Your image only brings back those images for me. Thanks.

This is good. Without the exit sign it appears to be the right way up.
