 Thursday nights are generally chess night, or as some friends call it, Fred night. Almost every Thursday Fred and I get together and have dinner, play chess, and drink scotch. Depending on the flow of scotch, the games can get quite interesting as the night goes on. There is also some history in the chess board and men in this photo. The chess board, I made when I was in junior HS; many, many years ago. Yes, it's had a hard life and shows it. Notice the first white pawn on the right. One of the pieces became lost years ago, so I made that chess piece from a chunk of pine that I glued to a table top sander and used my pocket knife as a shaper. Yes, it had a hard birth and shows it. The game is good. Fred and I have been meeting to duel it out for years. There is something about it... that is comfortable.

Wonderful story. I can't believe (although I do, of course) that you made that in JRH. Very impressive! And the pawn, that's funny. I love sharing good times, good drinks and wonderful company. Great image for this.

Great story and beautiful chess board! Looks like it has held up well over the years. I like that you included Fred in the shot. It seems as tho he is really enjoying his scotch lol.

sweet - I was a junior chess competitor - never won anything though. And, I also made the obligatory chess board in Junior shop class... with Mr Grady overseeing:)

For me this is what the 50 days of life challenge is all about...life! I know that may sound obvious but the shot itself for me is secondary, the important thing is the story behind the shot and the emotion that goes with it....Great shot!!! Fine story! Love it!!!
