This is Grandma, aka "Granny Jennie". I lived with my grandparents growing up and she played the primary parenting role.

She's 88 now and last fall moved from her home of 55 or 56 years to a condo. This is the house that I grew up in and it was a strange feeling to know I would never be back in it. I can only imagine how hard it was on her.

Every week, usually on Wednesday, I will go visit her in her new home. She's a really good baker and has an incredible memory. She can remember birthdays, anniversaries, etc. What amazes me is how she can remember dates such as when she bought her dryer 23 years ago...

A lovely woman with caring eyes. Great portrait and choice of B&W.

Haha, great memory, I can't remember things like that at all. This is a terrific shot, makes me really wish I had gotten a good B&W of my grandma while she was in town.

She looks great for her age! This is a lovely portrait.

I'd like to second what Germain said about either playing with levels (or I say brightness and contrast as well) because you would be surprised what kind of dimension that adds to black and white photos.

I hope I look so good at 88! She looks like a very sweet woman, and your portrait does her justice.

The look you captured is priceless. She looks like she's a fun and sweet lady. Thanks for the background, too. Kind of reminds me of my Aunt Boo (great aunt, really), who had a memory like a steel trap. Beautiful bw portrait. Have you shown it to her?

What a wonderful informal portrait. She looks as if she has a wonderful sense of humor, but I'll bet you didn't get away with much growing up!

Just a suggestion, but I wonder if you played with Levels and Curves a little if it would bring out a little more in the shot.

Really good work.

What a great portrait of Grannie Jennie. Thank you for sharing her with us. It's awesome that you get to have her in your life for so long, and I imagine she cherishes your visits as much as you do.
