My first entry with my D40, from my first day using it :D

A revisit to the eagle that Becky-Leeentered last year;
Brian lives at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Center. Because the beak keeps growing and changing shape, his prosthetic needs to be redesigned every few months. There's no precedence, so it's been a learning experience for everyone involved.
Brian's story

2-degree rotate, crop, usm, levels, slight tweaking of saturation, lather/rinse/repeat. :)

I like the concept, but the photo appears out of focus and over sharpened.

Is that a prosthetic beak? Aw......Lovely detail in this shot. Your lighting and your colors are wonderful. The composition makes this bird look very regal still, in spite of his obvious injury. Nice photojournalist capture!!! It tells so much more beyond just what is seen in the photograph and isn't that what photography is all about? A picture is worth 1000 words! Nicely done.

Oh my goodness.... is that an artificial beak? I hope you tell us about this shot because I'm really interested.

Detail in feathers lost. I was confused by the subject at first, but I understand now. Poor thing.

did someone care for this bird and reconstruct his/her beak? that is pretty amazing - cool and yet weird shot

This is extremely over sharpened. The blown out area on the birds head also hurts the shot a bit. To be honest (or more honest), I find the mangled beak to be a stomach turning distraction. That's not to say it's a great thing that someone fixed him up, but just me as a viewer - it's almost too much to take and I just want to get past the photo and never see it again.

What is this about with the 'device' on the eagle? My actions would involve getting it off of the poor bird and releasing it into nature! Upon another look at this photo that may well have been his demise! Glad I took another look at this it!

I get the title and the photo is technically well done. I have a hard time looking at the beak without feeling pretty uncomfortable. This is a tough photo to look at.

I'd love to know the story about this. Very sad.

caution, useless information ahead...kind of a two fold triumph since I'm pretty sure it was the bald eagle that was recently removed from the endangered species list.

Very nice image with great detail and lighting.

Nice capture and an interesting story behind this pic I am sure. The image just looks a little digital though - When the challenge is over I would love to know what's going on.
