Absolutely stunning stuff - a top 5 image in my book - but really really hard to win with an image that requires the voter to actually look at the image! I was one of your 9s.

It's pretty obvious that those that happened to stop for more than 5 seconds (commenters) really thought is was fantastic (8.7 compared to the overall score of 6.5)

The detail and texture is totally unreal...so is the b&w conversion. Something a little bit ominous about this photo. Well done!

Oh my!!! This is so amazingly artful. Dramatic. A million other superlatives are just under the surface too! What wonderful detail in the darks and lights. I love the close composition and the detail in the feathers! What a great entry you have here! Congratulations!

Interesting choice for a BW! Somehow it works, although I'd like to see more local contrasts to bring out the details.
