This is Waylon. That is his bear, Teddy Precious (the name is engrained on teddy's bum), "TP" for short. I saw Waylon dressed as a devil... I saw the church a block down. I asked him if I could pay him four dollars to go on location and be my model for 10 minutes. I wish I could have paid him more but that was all I had. He was by far one of the nicest people I have ever met. The picture turned out like shit, yes, but i was too distracted by his stories. He told me about how he likes to write about TP in his journal. Also, he loves to sit and watch the people and pretend like everyone is a San Francisco native, just like him, and that they love the city as much as he does. He assured me that he wasn't homeless but lived in a motel and just hung out on the streets sometimes to make a few extra bucks because him and TP don't like to be broke. Plus, he says, it's a good chance to meet nice people :).
Its times like these when I take a term like "Open Bible" to heart... the world is my Bible. The world is my church. And some people just so happen to be angels in disguise :)
wow. this is kind of nutty and great in a weird way. :/ I think you are going to inspire me to grow a spine and ask to photograph interesting people when i see them! lol.
I find his eyes a bit haunting. Quite an emotive image, as is quite typical for you (although this one is a bit different) ;) Wonderful commentary. Great image. I love the angle.
hmmm - a guy in drag with a devil's pitchfork, wig, skirt, heels, BIG heavy jacket (its July!), and a large stuffed teddy bear, in front of a church, late @ night...
yep! you sure know how to find 'em Shannon!! (somehow, you STILL managed to make this intriguing & captivating.) bravo as usual!
:) haha yes it was July indeed but it was only in the 40s in San Francisco!!!
