The last couple days I've been able to run on the trail I used all last year. This spring was really wet and the trail was flooded; even the wooden walkways were under water. They were literally floating 2 months ago. I saw this thing on my first time around the loop and thought it would an interesting picture. This was one of those times I let the processing take me wherever it wanted, if that makes me sense. I underexposed this a bit to darken the background. I only got one mosquito bite from the experience.

I have no idea what bush/flower this is, but there were some smaller, non-spikey balls I saw on the way out. But I was in a hurry to get back for work, so I had the balls to take another picture, just not enough time.

Here's a "bonus" picture. I saw this on the way to the spiked ball thing.

This is a beautiful photo! I love the details on the tiny petals. Great lighting and I love how it stands apart from the dark background.

I like the soft lighting on this. It looks like an exploding star.

An absolutely wonderful macro and one of my favourite flower shots that I have seen on DPC. The dark background works well and the PP is great in that you have retained the vibrancy of the green

As for the mosquito bite...well you can now say you suffer for you art!!!

I've never seen a flower like this. I really like the darkness, but I suspect in a voter challenge you'd need more glow from the flower to score high. Good close up and I like the position of the flower in the frame. Nice, too, how the leaves help naturally frame the flower.

This is an awesome little flower thing, I really love what you did with the background, it almost makes it look like you took it in a studio! Great find!

Under exposure will also save the whites/light from washout, and emphasize your available light. In processing - curves/levels in LAB, (usually less dramatic/harsh than in rgb) might bring some of the natural contrast out. Clarity is good, tad more sharpen may be possible. This is a beauty, excellent, I like it.

Oh man - this is just exquisite. Subject, processing, lighting - all awesome. It has a total 3-D effect. Love it.

Wow! Awesome macro! Colors & DOF are great! Almost looks like it's a flower/firework the way those little strands are coming out. Very cool.
