This is a way of dealing with some grief I still have swimming in my heart. My best friend committed suicide on 14/2/03 over a very trivial matter. It could have been sorted Paul. Love and Peace.

Hello from the Critique Club,

Let me start off by expressing my sympathy for the loss of your friend. You choose a very tough subject to sell in a challenge at DPC. Suicide makes people uncomfortable, as well it should. Regarding your image, I think you did a great job communicating your message. There is no emotion more extreme than taking your own life. Reading through the comments you received, I see that people were split between liking the B&W and wishing it was in color. I think the choice of B&W was a good one and served the image well. I think you might have scored a little better with a different conversion method to make it B&W. I prefer the channel mixing method explained in the DPC tutorial by fotomann_forever. This method would give you the option of adjusting between the red, green, and blue channel to make the blood show up better and to provide better contrast in the rest of the image. The more you boost the red channel above than the green and blue, the more the blood will lighten up. Give it a read and play around a bit.

If you want to send me a color version of the image, I would be happy to try a conversion or two on it to show you what could be done. Send me a PM if you have any questions regarding this critique.

Photo is kind of murky. Work on lighting.

Could have been in color and given more pop

Nice and sharp but a little too contrived.

Well done. I gave this a good score but may have given it top marks had it been in color. IMHO..it may have had more impact in color.

Captures the idea of 'faceless' expression well.

It looks like the person is bleeding ink not blood.

perhaps not graphic enough, too cropped, too sterile police shot type photo- the aaction is less extreme cause we are just here to see the aftermath. We need to feel moved, and you have done that, razorblades and blood and pills. Iwould have really blown out the shot to make it high key with extreme unsharp mask,

Extra points for the pinky ring.- but you should know, guys with pinky rings rarely commit suicide, and if they do, its usually with a revolver.

Oh...what a sad image. :(

Looks too real, so I guess this is indeed.. extreme emotion.

Great concept, not sure about the choice to go with black and white. It still works but the red might have given it more punch.

What's with all the blood in this challenge!?

I like the Kill Bill trick of going b+w to maximise the strength of the image without overkilling with all the red.
